I took a rise, accepted it gladly I’ve got ends to meet I did my best not to let my little best Get in too deep Not wanting to know where the karma goes Hopefully still nobody knows It’s all in the books and the clothes And it shows Is this just as bad as it feels? Welcome to this Crystal House My hideaway I hope to God they don’t find out But it feels like I’m being watched And all my friends are made of glass Smooth to touch They cover up to hide the cracks They think that I don’t notice that Sometimes there comes along this great dose of fear They days are the same And just like little mice stuck inside spinning wheels We’re chasing our ends Not wanting to know where the karma goes Hopefully still nobody knows It’s all in the books and the clothes And it shows Is this just as bad as it feels? Welcome to this Crystal House My hideaway I hope to God they don’t find out But it feels like I’m being watched And all my friends are made of glass Smooth to touch They cover up to hide the cracks Think that I don’t notice that Welcome to this Crystal House My hideaway I hope to God they don’t find out But it feels like I’m being watched And all my friends are made of glass Smooth to touch They cover up to hide the cracks Think that I don’t notice that

I’m looking for a band That understands my music Helps me find it when I lose it That keeps my feet right on the ground Some of my friends think my songs Have got too country So I say to my so-called friends My songs aren’t country enough Take the time Don’t fall apart From the heart So take the time Don’t fall apart From the heart I’m looking for a reason Something to believe in I can’t wait to sink my teeth in And let the music really sing Sometimes I feel estranged Not welcome to sit at your table Other times I feel so moved By the genuine friendship of people So take the time Don’t fall apart From the heart Take the time Don’t fall apart From the heart I’m looking for a band That understands my music Helps me find it when I lose it Keeps my feet right on the ground I’m looking for a band That understands my music Helps me find it when I lose it Keeps my feet right on the ground

In Flames 03:56
In flames when I think of the chances I have In flames when I think of my loved ones and some of them struggling They teach me everything In flames when I think of the women I've known In flames when I think of the chances I've blown and their faces Whenever I got too serious In flames when I think of the magic we have In flames when I think of the friendships that last How can I do my accounts, work out profits and gains? When I'm in flames In flames when I pick up the papers to read In flames when I think of the egos and me going mad Is this me or is this madness? In flames when I think of what passes for good In flames when I think of those cheap-shod shoes Walking all over the backs of the cool Jacks and dames... When I'm in flames I fully realize I never see the world the way it really it is ‘coz in my head what passes for greatness is still so precious And I confess I’m feeling the pressure now But I promise that I’ll never give in Because I know I'm not the only one that wants to stand up and say... I'm in flames

Can a balloon burst through the atmosphere I fear To wander upon the stars that shine so brightly in the country As the animals all make weird noises The city’s miles away and I feel strange Watch the way a feather’s falling This way that way waits to make its mind up It’s just like drifting Remember when I used to tell you The wolves of California They’re just sleeping It’s just like sleeping… Hark at the bogeyman he’s just outside snapping twigs Fetch the torch and shine a yellow beam of light in to the darkness Our own brightness Is so superficial The city’s miles away and I feel strange Watch the way a feather’s falling This way that way waits to make its mind up It’s just like drifting Remember when I used to tell you The wolves of California They’re just sleeping It’s just like sleeping I don’t mind saying I get a little freaked out here in the woods I’m at two with nature out here in the woods Out here in the woods -INSTRUMENTAL BREAK- The city’s miles away and I feel strange Watch the way a feather’s falling This way that way waits to make its mind up It’s just like drifting Remember when I used to tell you The wolves of California They’re just sleeping It’s just like sleeping I don’t mind saying I get a little freaked out here in the woods I’m at two with nature out here in the woods I go a little bit crazy out here in the woods I get the heebie-jeebies out here in the woods Out here in the woods

College Girl 03:21
You could take a left You could take a right You could turn the day right into night But every time I read my diary I can hardly wait till the day we meet Do you think you’ll change? Will you think it’s strange The way it gets so quiet here? I could walk a mile I could watch TV Drink a little beer in the place to be If I could read a book I’d get in so deep I’d lose myself before I fall asleep But I always catch myself thinking out loud ‘I wonder what she’s doing now?’ If you see me wait by the gate You would hear me say I hope she stays For love in the holidays I wish that I’d studied hard at school Got my head down just like you But I was always chasing something new I’d never finish anything that I’d start to do And you’ve left home to see the world You’ve become a college girl If you see me wait by the gate You would hear me say I hope she stays For love in the holidays If you see me wait by the gate You would hear me say I hope she stays For love in the.. Love in the.. Love in the holidays

about

"I was living in flat in a factory complex in Kawasaki city in Japan wondering how I ended up there and what I was supposed to do with the rest of my life. I was completely lost. It was then I started writing songs. I'd already learned to play the guitar, a few simple chords, and I fed myself mainly on a diet of tunes by Neil Young. One of the first gigs I ever did was in front of a thousand Japanese school kids all clapping along in metronomically perfect time to a shambolic rendition of 'The Old Laughing Lady'"

"After a few shaky false starts I ended up recording Looking For A Band with my old buddy Tom Baxter. In spite of the occasional rough edges, this recording captures an exuberance, energy and joy that gladdened my heart then, and still does to this day. It was never properly released at the time – the songs remain largely unheard – so I'm very happy to upload them here and share them with you today."
